Garlic's in

Another successful garlic harvest is in the curing shed. There is some very nice bulbs this year in all varieties. Not as big as we had hoped but very respectable all the same. The rest of the garden is doing good. Started picking cukes a couple of days ago and should have plenty for the next couple of weeks. The potato crop is looking real good. Yukon gold and french fingerlings are very nice with very little scab or blemishes. Corn and squash are looking good also, even after the disappointment of the sweet corn not germinating worth a hill of beans but the aztec blue corn germinated almost perfectly so we should have lots of it.

Winter

Been enjoying the slack time of the year. Another year out the door, they seem to be slipping by a lot quicker these days. Been cleaning up garlic over the last month or so and dehydrating it for making nuggets and powder. Almost got it done only about 75 lbs left to go. Waiting for the restaurants at the wineries to open up again maybe be able to sell some to them along with the bulbs we have stored. Was a good year all and all last year, hoping this one will be also

Garlic harvest is in and looking good, not as big as we had hoped but still pretty decent size.

We have several varieties of pesticide and chemical fertilizer free seed garlic and eating garlic available the third week of September including Susan Dalifield, Northern Quebec, Leningrad, Dans Russian, Ukranian Mavniv, Tibetan, German Red, Cheznok Red, Fish Lake 3 and Persian Star. Grown in Willowbrook in the beautiful South Okanagan of British Columbia.

Seed garlic size 2" and up for $9.00/lb
Garlic suitable for the home garden will produce nice size bulbs for the home kitchen 1 1/2" to 2" for $7.50/lb
Garlic 1 1/2" and less for $5.00/lb. Prices do not included shipping which will be done by the method of your choice at your expense.

Harvest is upon us

Here it is the last day of July and we have only harvested a few bulbs of garlic. It has been such a cool wet spring that the garlic has been able to stay in veg longer this year. Hopefully that translates into larger bulb formation. The crop is looking really good this year so hope to sell some top notch seed this year. Know better in a couple of weeks. Vote Yes to get rid of the HST.

Planting is done

Got all the garlic in and mulched a few weeks ago. It got roots after about 13 days so it should be able to get a good start come spring. We didn't plant quite as much as last year but the size should all be much bigger so hoping to have a lot of seed garlic for sale next year.

Varieties we have in the ground are Susan Dalifield, Leningrad, Northern Quebec, Tibetan, Persian Star, German Red, Ukranian Mavniv, Dans Russian, Cheznok Red, Fish Lake 3, of which there is enough for sales of seed stock or culinary next year. We also have Asian Tempest, Thai, Chinese, Japanese, Sicilian Gold, Hungarian, which we are in the process of building to quantities for sale.

We plan on putting in a variety of market vegetables also. Probably mostly for our own use but also hopefully some for market. We are small and do not have the means to hire help so can only do what the three of us can manage. It is great eating our own vegetables and I can't believe how great the flavor is compared to the stuff you get from the super markets.

Garlic

Well it has been a super nice fall day here in paradise of the South Okanagan. Garlic planting is just around the corner. We had a good season last and were able to sell almost all our garlic stock. Got to get the summer crop residue off the garden so we can plant the garlic. Got about 3 weeks work ahead of us but am really looking forward to it.

The BC Rail trial is still going on or should say is back at it again finally. Another witness has come down with amnesia. I'm shocked that the judge let's this perjury go unchallenged. It is utter contempt of court as far as I can tell. Only if you are an old lady trying to protect what's left of the wilderness is contempt of court a jail time offence.
